I will admit this painting is kind of weird. Miniature eggplants look like what? Purple blobs.

Both of the paintings I attempted this day were the same. The other one was a concha pastry. I’d wanted to paint a concha for ages and as soon as I wanted to paint one they were always sold out at the grocery store. Then I did paint it and it was relatively realistic but … it also looked like a blob.

I painted this painting outside from life. There’s an apartment building on my street with outdoor stairs leading up to the third floor balcony. I had to work fast, because I didn’t want to get arrested for trespassing.

I’m a landscape painter, but I also love to paint still life. It’s very relaxing. This is the third Macarons painting I’ve done, part of my series Sweets for the Sweet.

When I paint a still life I try to focus on the objects just the way they are. There is beauty in simplicity.

I prefer humble objects like flowers, fruit, and baked goods. Even more than landscape painting, still life painting is looked down on by the contemporary art world… I’d like to change that.
